Double Glazing Cost Comparison

January 5, 2010 · Filed Under Home & Garden · Comment

Double Glazing Cost Comparison We’ve all heard the hullabaloo about global warming and climate change. And whether you believe it or not, the fact still remains that you can save on your utility bills and help do your bit against pollution by undertaking some simple changes in and around your home. This can include installing Double glazed windows – where two sheets of glass are separated by a thin vacuum (or gas-filled space) to reduce the amount of cool or warm air entering or leaving your house. Double glazing can mean in winter your heater is not wasting its time by warming the air only to have it escape through the glass in your windows. Or, cool air filtering into your house won’t need to be heated, thus decreasing your bills. The reverse applies in summer. The cool air is kept in, and the warm outside air is kept out. When you think about it, it makes sense. Even if you don’t care much for saving the planet, you will more than likely care for the money leaking from your pocket – and double glazing can help stem that flow.

Organise Your Garage Storage

April 11, 2009 · Filed Under Home & Garden, Shopping · Comment

Garage storage Every home should have garage storage for your vehicles, or anything else that you would like to keep safe. From cars to bicycles and gardening tools, there is something you can buy to help you keep things organised. I am sure you wouldn’t want to have a bike at the front while another on the corner of your garage. This would be a mess, not to mention the fact that you have to find each and every thing at a different place. Why the hassle when you can group things accordingly?

Get a bike stand to store as many bicycles as you have in your household. Perhaps your son and daughter have their own bicycles and it would be great to have a designated place for them to store it. You might even have your own bicycle. Why not keep all the bicycles in one place so that it is easier to get it when you need it?

Eco Lighting

Eco Lighting You must have often wondered how you, as an individual, can contribute to making the Earth greener and more eco-friendly. You don’t have to clean your street everyday to show your environmental concerns. Instead, small changes in your lifestyle - like the bulbs you use - can make a big impact on the environment. For example, the normal incandescent bulbs that you use convert only about 5 to 10 percent of electricity into light. The rest of electricity consumed is released as heat. This is not only harmful to the environment, but also to the people who use these bulbs. So by using green lighting, or eco lighting, we are not only saving our environment but also saving ourselves from the harmful effects of ordinary bulbs.

The Greens and Browns of Composting

November 11, 2008 · Filed Under Home & Garden · Comment

Compost Imagine yourself as a chef of a fancy restaurant. To cook a delicious meal, you carefully measure the ingredients and combine them to create wonderful dishes. The same can be said when creating composts. This time, however, instead of the people in the restaurant as your customers, you will be answering the needs of your plants. And just like cooking, you are given the task of putting together in equal amounts the “greens” and “browns” of composting.
